Mountain climber

Hi there! The mountain climber is back on track. The last couple of days we've been around Fox and Franz Josef's glacier. This is also a part of the rainforest so yes we hit a lot of rain. But I was still very determent to do a great hike and to be able to see the glacier. I found a French girl on the hostel that I sticked with. She had been there for 5 days already and I got a feeling that she knew what she was doing. She had been doing the Roberts Track to the Franz Josef just a couple of days ago and she was heading for it again that day with another girl from Germany. I asked them if it was ok if I joined them and of course it was okay. My brother also decided to come along.

The track was a lot of fun!! We were really climbing the whole way. Some part of the track they had build some steps and some bridges but for most of the part you had to enter the waterfalls or grab on to rocks and trees to get going up. We stopped a couple times to catch our breaths, enjoy the views and fill up our water bottles in the waterfalls. It took us about 3 hours to get to the look out and it was amazing. It was so cool to see a real glacier and it was just like 600 m away from us! It was pretty cloudy and foggy when we arrived but we waited for maybe 30 minutes and it got better and we saw even more of the glacier.

Heading down was a lot of fun as well but I fell once on the slippery rocks. Luckily it wasn't straight down right there so I had time to grab on to a bush. I didn't hurt myself a lot but I can't deny I'm a little sore on my butt and hand. And my legs in general is pretty sore of the crazy track.

Last night Marcus R and I decided to go out in the rain on a little adventure. We had heard about glow worms in a forest just a few minutes away from the hostel and we just had to check it out. Usually they live in caves and tour companies will take you there for quite a lot of money... and we are on a budget so when things are for free we had to do it! It was raining cats and dogs and I think I got more soaked there then I get in the shower. 🤔 although we saw the worms we didn't stay long. It was at least 5 cm of water on the ground and the forest was very dark (and scary) so we turned around after 10 minutes. The worms were really nice, they had this blueish color in the dark. I wish I could show you but it was impossible to get a nice shot out there.

Today we went to the mirror lake, Lake Matheson to see the fox glacier. It's famous because of its reflexion capability of the mountain and the glacier. If it was a a perfect and still day.. it's not a perfect and still day today.. it was very rainy so my already wet clothes and shoes got totally soaked. But I saw the Fox glacier so I'm very happy!! And it was a really nice walk so I can't complain.

Now we are heading for Graymouth, we heard it's not a lot to do there so hopefully we can sort out some of our photos.
